The last one of the three mountains I wanted to visit before returning to Finland. Hiei-zan overlooks Kyoto from its north side. The best way to experience it is to take a train to the other side of the mountain, ascend it and come back to the city on Kyoto side. There's three distinctive locations on the way: the kitchy Otsu port, Hiyoshi shrine surrounded by the beautiful forest and Enryakuji temple high up in the mountain.
